From Adele to Taylor Swift, from the European Football Championships to the State Garden Show - Munich is once again hosting a whole host of major events this year. We have collected the most important events in 2024 for you!
Bavarian State Garden Show 2024 in Kirchheim near Munich: 15 May to 6 October 2024
Attention garden and culture fans! You should make a note of this date: On May 15, 2024, the 35th Bavarian State Garden Show will open its doors in Kirchheim, just a stone's throw from Munich. For 145 days, until October 6, 2024, you can immerse yourself in the adventure of nature under the motto "Growing Together".
Folk Festival „Jakobidult": 27 July to 4 August 2024
It doesn't get much more Munich than this: Mariahilfplatz in Munich's Au district is a popular place to meet up in traditional costume for the Auer Dult - or Jakobidult to be more precise. From July 27 to August 4, 2024, around 100,000 guests celebrate the summer here - just the way they like it: children love the nostalgic chain carousel, handmade doll's clothes, small furniture for their playhouses at home and the cotton candy. Adults browse through pottery, rustic cardigans and practical household goods - and treat themselves to a beer or a fresh steamed dumpling in between. Dult is cult!
Adele: Dates in August 2024
This has never happened before: a dedicated stadium is being built for British artist Adele at Messe München, which will seat 80,000 spectators per evening. Adele will perform a total of ten open-air concerts at the venue in August 2024. The singer has not been to Munich since 2016, and the special concerts at the exhibition grounds will be the only dates in Europe this year. The dates are August 2, 3, 9, 10, 14, 16, 23, 24, 30 and 31.
Coldplay „Music Of The Spheres World Tour“: 15, 17 and 18 August 2024
One of the most beautiful locations for large open-air summer concerts is the Olympic Stadium. The British band Coldplay and frontman Chris Martin are even giving three concerts in the Olympic Stadium in August 2024.
Oktoberfest: 21 September to 6 Oktober 2024
We are already looking forward to the biggest folk festival in the world. It's clear: Oktoberfest rules the city. It kicks off on September 21, 2024, when Munich's Lord Mayor taps the first beer barrel in the Schottenhamel marquee with just a few strokes. For two weeks, the beer tents and rides on the Theresienwiese will be buzzing. Incidentally, the largest and most popular folk festival in the world was originally a horse race to celebrate the wedding of the future King Ludwig I and his Therese, after whom the venue is named.
„Superbloom“ Festival: 7 and 8 September 2024
If you're looking for an alternative, there's a new art and culture festival: "Superbloom" will take place for the second time at the beginning of September in the Olympic Park and stadium. The organizers are once again promising good music, art, design, unexpected adventures and lots of fun to leave everyday life behind. This year, both international and national stars will be performing - including Calvin Harris, Sam Smith, Shirin David, CRO, Milky Chance and Tokio Hotel. Visitors can find the complete line-up on the website.
Munich Marathon with Lederhosen and Dirndl run: 13 Oktober 2024
On October 13, 2024, the Munich Marathon will take its participants and visitors to the city's most beautiful squares and streets before crossing the finish line in the legendary Olympic Stadium. But don't worry: not every athlete has to complete the 42.2 kilometers past the Siegestor, Chinese Tower, Gasteig, National Theatre and Viktualienmarkt! There are also competitions over 10 or 21 kilometers (half marathon). Children and young people up to the age of 14 can put their skills to the test in the children's run. A special event for families, colleagues and Lederhosen and Dirndl clubs is the Trachtenrun: In Lederhosen and Dirndl, the runners take on an approximately 3.5-kilometer course through the Munich Olympic Park. Registrations are possible until September 29, 2024.

Kirchweihdult: 19 to 27 Oktober 2024
The last Auer Dult of the year takes place from October 19 to 27, 2024, when the Kirchweihdult is held on Mariahilfplatz in the Au, which always begins on the Saturday before the holiday of the same name. Europe's largest tableware market awaits thousands of visitors here. Traders sell porcelain and ceramics, household accessories, natural remedies and clothing at numerous stalls. Between the beer tent with beer garden and snack stalls, there are pretty nostalgic rides such as a chain carousel, a boat swing, a bumper car and a number of shooting galleries. Tuesday is family day with reduced prices for children.
Christmas market: 25 November to 24 December 2024
The classic among Munich's Christmas markets is the Christkindlmarkt around Marienplatz - the largest and most traditional in the city. Until Christmas Eve, you can enjoy Christmas music, high-quality arts and crafts, mulled wine, sausages and roasted almonds in front of the illuminated backdrop of the town hall, Frauenkirche and Alter Peter church. And the giant Munich Christmas tree towers between the stalls.

Tollwood Winterfestival: 26 November to 31 December 2024
From November 26 to December 31, 2024, the Tollwood Winter Festival will enchant you with its colorfully illuminated tent tops on the Theresienwiese. What makes this alternative Christmas market so special is its street theater, artistic masterpieces, concerts, a children's program, organic gastronomy and colorful arts and crafts from all over the world. Most of the events are free of charge. Politicians, scientists and artists appear in the multimedia tent of the "World Salon" to discuss ecological and social issues with the public.
